Mystery of the Amazon
Almost everyone has heard of the Amazon, a mysterious, intriguing place that we all want to know more about but few take the opportunity. This part of Brazil is a conglomeration of rivers and forests that extend well into other countries. The massive river that runs through the Amazon is known as Rio Amazonas, which runs through Belem and Manaus. As it travels through the Amazon, the river joins with other rivers, providing a navigable route for the natives to move through the land and for ocean-going vessels to reach the other side of the continent.
You noticed we used the word, “mysterious”, which sums the Amazon up – very secretive. To this day, many areas of the Amazon have yet to be tapped into, leaving a shroud of mystery and intrigue hanging over. This area of Brazil offers more than 15,000 species of fish, birds, and wildlife, most colorful and interesting. For instance, it is common to see jaguar, tapir, the spider monkey, sloth, armadillo, alligator, caiman, peccary, river dolphin, anaconda, and boa constrictor. The species of birds include things like the parrot, macaw, toucan, gaviao, and hummingbird. However, just as there is an abundance of life form, you also have to deal with the insects. In fact, the Amazon is home to more than 200 species of mosquitoes alone. Fish living in the Amazon include the piranha, piraracu, piraiba, anuana, tucunare, and poraque. One of the fascinating things about taking a guided tour down the Amazon River is that you can stop along the way to explore and experience many smaller towns, one of these being Manaus. Considered one of the more popular stops, Manaus is a beautiful place that is great for day trips. Once there, you will have the chance to experience flora and fauna like never before. If lucky, you might even cross paths with some of the remote Indians still living there.
