Water Sports of Costa Rica

Although people visit the country of Costa Rica for a number of reasons such as hiking, visiting the rainforest, experiencing historical sites, and more, one of the major draws is the water and all the water sports you can imagine. This country is stunning with lush, green vegetation and the water crystal blue and inviting. Because of this, families come from around the world just to experience the water and the beaches.

For example, the Pacific coast offers first-class sailfish, marlin, yellowfin, tuna, and dorado also known as Mahi-Mahi fishing. To support the ecosystem in Costa Rica, you will find many guided tours that provide catch and release opportunities. The best deep-sea fishing time is from December to May although you can catch fish all year long. This time of year is also drier, which means the ocean is calmer making fishing better. As you head out on the water, you will also have the chance to see dolphins, whales, manta rays, turtles, and other species up close.

Surfing in Costa RicaWhitewater rafting is also a popular activity with the Pacuare River being considered one of the top five rivers in the world. This river is on the Caribbean slope and winds its way through a rainforest in the Cabecar Indian Reserve. As a part of the trip down the Pacuare, you will have the opportunity to see the rainforest while enjoying both Class III and Class IV rapids.

The water is also perfect for surfing. Costa Rica has long been recognized as a top destination where surfers can enjoy a wide variety of surf and breaks. Because of that, people of all ages and skill levels can enjoy this sport. With comfortable water temperatures, a wetsuit is seldom needed. Additionally, many of the top beaches have board rentals for an affordable price.

If you prefer something a little more laid back, then you might consider taking a sunset cruise. Boarding a yacht, you can enjoy the breathtaking views that go along with the Pacific coastline. You can watch as the waves, crash against the mountains and watch numerous sea life as they frolic at sea. No matter what type of water activity you choose, you will feel as though you are in heaven.
