"Creete, Greece"

Crete is the southernmost island in Europe and a beautiful place to visit. The great thing about Crete is the diversity, which is seen in the mountain villages, exciting nightlife, pristine sandy beaches, rocky bays, abundance of water sports, and more. This city in Greece is bathed in sun all year round and as the largest island in Greece, it is a huge tourist destination.

In this part of the country, you can stand out on sandy beaches, wading in the cool ocean water or look up at the sharp, jagged mountain ranges. Crete also boasts wonderful wildlife, flowers, and plants, many that are unique to the island. This island also has a unique and pleasant fragrance that comes from wild herbs, along with some of the most delicious fresh fruit and interestingly, the world’s best olive oil and cheese. However, relaxing in one of the mountain villages while sipping on Crete coffee is about as good as life gets.

The people of Crete are known around the world for their incredible hospitability. They have a true love of people and of life, which is clearly seen when you arrive on the island. Other traditions to enjoy include Greek music, arts and crafts, and of course, the amazing Greek food, unmatched by any other. With this being such a large island, you will find some areas to be highly developed with luxury resort hotels while other sections of the island feature peaceful coves and hidden beaches.

All throughout the island, you will have so many wonderful places to visit and things to do. For example, Crete offers a major archaeological museum called Heraklion. There, you can enjoy seeing and learning about many wonderful treasures, while shopping in trendy shops or dining in charming cafes. Then, there is Chania, where the famous Venetian Villas exist, now transformed into magnificent hotels.

Of course, Rethymno and Sitia are also great places to go. In Rethymno, you will find yourself in the older section of the city where there is a castle, beautiful beach, and lots of restaurants and cafes. However, if you prefer a quieter spot, then Sitia is ideal. Here, you can enjoy time at the beach or just relax with a great cup of coffee in any number of quaint cafes.

The great thing about spending time on the island of Crete while in Greece is that the environment is so diverse. In other words, if you want to explore the island’s history or shop, you will find that you have many options but if you simply want to enjoy the island’s natural beauty then you can take in the healing power and charm. With hundreds of small towns and villages, you can be sure to find something perfect for you. Each is unique with its own pace, style, setting, and mood.
